On the morning of January 20, explosions were heard in Kazan, Russia (Republic of Tatarstan). Authorities in the Kaluga region reported a drone attack. The city's airport suspended operations, and debris caused a fire at a facility.
According to a Telegram report from the governor of the Kaluga region, Vladislav Shapsha,
“There have been no casualties or damage reported. Emergency services are continuing their work at the scene and are addressing the aftermath,” – quotes the local government Telegram channel “Tatarstan-24”.
Astra writes that drones targeted the Kazan Aircraft Plant named after S. Gorbunov – one of the largest enterprises in the Russian aviation industry, which manufactures and repairs strategic bombers Tu-160 and long-range bombers Tu-22M3M/Tu-22M3.
The channel publishes videos of the shelling from local sources. It is believed that one of the drones struck an empty tank on the plant's premises. The “Borisoglebskoye” airfield is located nearby, journalists note.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported the destruction of 31 UAVs overnight, allegedly directed by Ukraine. They claim one of them was shot down over Tatarstan.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that UAVs attacked an arsenal in the Novgorod region of Russia, where artillery shells, rockets for the MLRS "Grad", "Smerch", and "Uragan", "Iskanders", North Korean KN23s, missiles for the S-300 and S-400, and munitions for the "Tor" system are stored.
