The Australian Open has officially begun, and on the first day of competition, one Ukrainian player took to the court – Yulia Starodubtseva.
Unfortunately, the Ukrainian representative was unable to overcome her opponent and was eliminated in the first round.
Starodubtseva's opponent was Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the 30th seed in the tournament. In the first set, Fernandez won the first three games, but at a score of 5:2, the Ukrainian managed to equalize. However, her opponent won two consecutive games afterward and took the first set.
It is worth noting that the girls took a break due to rain.
In the second set, Fernandez again broke Starodubtseva's serve at the start, but towards the end, she failed to convert three match points and allowed Starodubtseva to break back. Nonetheless, in the 10th game (on her serve), the Ukrainian ultimately lost and exited the tournament.
