The oil depot in Engels, Saratov region of Russia, has been burning for the fifth consecutive day following a Ukrainian attack.

Governor Roman Busargin of the region reported this information.

“The process of controlled fuel burning continues. Specialists are working around the clock to take all necessary measures for extinguishing,” he wrote. Busargin noted that both the amount of smoke and the area of the fire are decreasing. Recent air samples also showed no exceedance of harmful substance concentrations.

On January 8, the Russians claimed that drones attacked the oil depot of the "Kristal" plant of Rosrezerv in Engels. This facility stores fuel for the "Engels-2" airbase, where the enemy's strategic aviation is based. Later, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the strike, stating that it “creates serious logistical problems for the strategic aviation of the Russian occupiers and significantly reduces their ability to strike peaceful Ukrainian cities and civilian facilities.”

Subsequently, another tank at the oil depot exploded. The area of the fire increased, and during the firefighting efforts, two rescuers lost their lives. A state of emergency has been declared in the city.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that the SBU drones and a "Neptune" missile struck a warehouse of Russian reconnaissance drones and munitions in the Rostov region.
