KNDS and a Ukrainian company have established a joint defense enterprise.

The German engineering company KMW (KNDS Deutschland) and one of the Ukrainian defense enterprises have established a joint venture.

This was reported by the Minister for Strategic Industries, Herman Smetanin.

“I am pleased to announce the official launch of the joint venture between KMW (KNDS Deutschland) and one of the Ukrainian defense enterprises. The newly formed company will specialize in the maintenance and repair of military equipment supplied by the German company to the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The first samples of this equipment arrived in Ukraine back in 2022,” he stated.

Smetanin emphasized that Ukrainian specialists have already undergone training in Germany, and the first systems have been installed at the facilities.

“I thank Germany for its leadership in establishing joint ventures and for its trust in the Ukrainian defense industry. I appreciate our partners at KNDS for their readiness to collaborate with the Ukrainian defense sector,” he added.

According to him, this decision will expedite the repair of equipment, allowing it to return to the front lines more quickly to carry out combat missions. Additionally, the joint venture will support the Ukrainian economy through investments and job creation.

KNDS Deutschland is an engineering company primarily focused on the production of military equipment and armored vehicles. The company also manufactures equipment for polymer molding – thermoplastic injection molding machines.

Background. Previously, Mind reported that KNDS will manufacture 155mm ammunition and repair equipment for Ukraine. The Ukrainian side plans to scale up ammunition production for Western systems.

In October 2024, KNDS also opened a subsidiary in Kyiv. LLC “KNDS Ukraine” will facilitate cooperation among government institutions, the Ukrainian defense industry, and the consortium itself.
