The number of fatalities due to the massive wildfires in Los Angeles, California has risen to 16. Eleven people lost their lives in the Eaton fire in the foothills of the Angeles National Forest in Pasadena and the Altadena area. An additional five fatalities were reported from the Palisades fire in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood.
This information was shared by the County Medical Examiner's Department, as reported by CNN.
Thirteen more individuals are considered missing.
The coming days are expected to be challenging due to "potentially critical fire weather conditions." According to data from the National Weather Service, moderate to locally strong winds are anticipated to increase on Monday evening and Tuesday.
"The very dry vegetation, combined with prolonged extreme fire weather conditions, will contribute to the rapid spread and erratic behavior of any new or existing fires," the statement noted.
By the end of next week, the winds are expected to diminish, with a possibility of light rain.
