Israel has released 90 Palestinian prisoners as part of an agreement with Hamas regarding the release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip and the establishment of a ceasefire.

This is reported by The Jerusalem Post.

The Palestinian detainees were transferred from various prisons across the country to Ofer Prison, located near Jerusalem, according to the publication's report. There, they underwent security checks, identification procedures, and medical examinations prior to their final release.

According to The Jerusalem Post, 78 prisoners were transported by Red Cross buses to the Bitunia checkpoint in the West Bank for their release, while Israeli police oversaw the transfer of 12 detainees to East Jerusalem.

The list of those released includes 69 women and one minor girl. Additionally, 12 men and eight youths under the age of 18 were released from prison. These individuals had previously been convicted of offenses against the security of Israel.

It is worth noting that Israel and Hamas reached a ceasefire agreement. This agreement includes an initial six-week ceasefire phase and outlines the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and the release of hostages in exchange for Palestinians. The arrangement resulted from months of negotiations mediated by Egyptian and Qatari intermediaries with the support of the United States. It came into effect on January 19.
