Former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has been appointed the new Minister of Finance of Norway as part of a cabinet reshuffle.

This is mentioned on the government website of the country.

A press release from the Munich Security Conference states that Stoltenberg will return to his position as head of the Munich Security Conference on a public basis once he leaves public office.

Stoltenberg himself expressed that it is a great honor for him to lead the ministry.

“After carefully considering the current challenges we face, I have decided to accept the request of Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre to serve as his Minister of Finance. I will return to the Munich Security Conference and my other responsibilities after my time in this role. I am grateful for the decision to temporarily relieve me of my duties while I serve my country again. I will continue to participate in the work of the MSC and its numerous events as much as my new position allows,” Stoltenberg stated.

As reported by Reuters, the appointment of the highly popular and respected Stoltenberg may improve the position of the Labour government ahead of the parliamentary elections in September.

The agency reminds that the veteran politician served as Prime Minister of Norway from 2000 to 2001 and from 2005 to 2013. He led the Western military alliance for a decade, including during the first term of U.S. President Donald Trump. Stoltenberg resigned last year.
