Russia is "open to dialogue" with the new administration of U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Ukraine. This is about "not a short ceasefire, but a long-term peace."
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin made this statement during a meeting with members of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
Putin congratulated Trump on his inauguration as President of the United States. According to him, Moscow observes Trump's and his team's statements about their desire to restore direct contacts with Russia.
“We have never refused dialogue with any U.S. administration. We are also open to dialogue with the new U.S. administration regarding the Ukrainian conflict. The goal of the Ukrainian settlement should be not a short ceasefire, but a long-term peace,” he stated.
Putin also asserted that any settlement must ensure a “stable peace based on respect for the legitimate interests of all peoples living in this region.”
The Russian dictator added that the Russian authorities will continue to fight for the interests of their people, as supposedly “this is the essence of the special military operation.”
