The Security Service of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigations, with the support of the Minister of Defense and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, have detained the former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This was reported by the press service of the SBU.
A source from LIGA.net in law enforcement stated that the individual in question is Colonel Dmytro Ryumshin.
It has been established that while serving as commander, he failed to inform law enforcement about a significant number of cases of personnel abandoning their posts, which occurred during the preparation of the unit in the European Union, as well as during combat missions on the eastern front.
“Currently, law enforcement is verifying information regarding the presence of corruption schemes within the brigade during the selection of military personnel for training abroad,” the statement said.
Moreover, information is being checked regarding possible “schemes” where military personnel could evade their duties in exchange for bribes.
The former commander of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is being prepared to be notified of suspicion under part 4 of Article 426 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (inaction of military authority under martial law conditions). The sanctions of this article provide for punishment of up to 10 years of imprisonment.
Recall that fighters of the 155th Brigade named after Anna of Kyiv were trained in France by Western instructors. France also provided Ukrainian soldiers with weapons. After the brigade was returned to Ukraine, media reported on mass cases of desertion and AWOL among the soldiers. Moreover, some military personnel fled during training in France.
On January 2, it became known that the SBI had begun an investigation into the mass AWOL in the 155th Brigade "Anna of Kyiv" following relevant media publications.
On January 5, at the headquarters of the Supreme Commander, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he is taking the situation surrounding the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade “under personal control.”
