Между Швецией и Финляндией зафиксировано новое повреждение интернет-кабеля, сообщают СМИ.

On December 3, an internet cable was severed between Sweden and Finland. It sustained damage, but the cause of the incident is currently unknown.

This was reported by the Swedish public broadcaster SVT.

Two breaks were identified in Finland, according to the report. Law enforcement suspects that this could be the result of intentional actions.

“The Finnish police are investigating what happened, and given the circumstances of the incident, they suspect sabotage,” stated Aftonbladet Civil Defence Minister Karl-Oskar Bolin.

According to media reports, the networks of the Swedish company Global Connect were affected, which is currently conducting repairs. One damage was recorded in Espoo, while the other occurred in Vihti, as explained by a company representative.

He mentioned that on December 2, approximately 6,000 households and nearly 100 business clients in Finland were without internet.

Finland's Minister of Transport and Communications, Lulu Ranne, wrote on X that the authorities are investigating this matter in collaboration with the company. “We take the situation seriously,” she stated.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that on November 20, the Danish Navy detained the Chinese vessel Yi Peng 3, which is suspected of being involved in a possible sabotage of European internet cables in the Baltic Sea. Preliminary data suggests that the cable damage could have been caused either by a dropped anchor or the use of a bottom trawl. The newspaper Bild reported that the ship's captain is Russian.
