Латвия передала Украине автомобили, изъятые у пьяных водителей, на сумму 2,25 миллиона евро.

Latvia has transferred 612 vehicles to Ukraine, confiscated from intoxicated drivers, with a total value of €2.25 million, reports Delfi citing the Latvian State Revenue Service.

This initiative was made possible by amendments to the Latvian Law on Supporting the Civil Population of Ukraine, approved by the Latvian parliament on February 16, 2023.

The new legislation allows the government to transfer vehicles that have become state property to Ukraine.

Among the vehicles donated to Ukraine are cars seized from drivers under the influence of alcohol. Since the law came into effect, the Latvian government has repeatedly decided to transfer these confiscated vehicles to Ukraine.

According to Delfi, some of the vehicles will be allocated to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, including military units, while others will be used for civilian purposes to address humanitarian needs.

It was previously reported that Latvia will continue to allocate 0.25% of its GDP for aid to Ukraine. This has already been included in the country's budget for 2025-2026.
