On January 20, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order to suspend all foreign aid programs for 90 days.

This was reported by Associated Press (AP).

During this period, a review will be conducted to determine whether the provision of aid aligns with the political objectives of the new administration.

“No further foreign assistance from the United States will be provided in this manner unless it fully aligns with the foreign policy of the President of the United States,” Trump emphasized.

As noted by AP, the total amount of financial and other assistance that the U.S. provides to various countries amounts to no more than 1% of the American budget.

However, there are exceptions, such as military aid to Ukraine. According to the latest data from the State Department, nearly $66 billion has been allocated to support Kyiv since the onset of Russia's full-scale invasion, and about $70 billion since 2014.

Among other major recipients of U.S. aid are Israel ($3.3 billion per year), Egypt ($1.5 billion), and Jordan ($1.7 billion).

At the same time, assistance to these countries is allocated under long-term programs approved by Congress, so it remains unclear how much the funding will be affected by Trump's order, AP notes.

Previously, new Secretary of State Marco Rubio told members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that “every dollar we spend, every program we fund” must answer three questions: “Does this make America safer? Does this make America stronger? Does this make America more prosperous?”

Trump's order to suspend aid programs does not apply to Ukraine. Support for our country is implemented through PDA, USAI, and FMF projects. These programs are not affected by Trump's order.

Background. Recall that Trump signed an order for the U.S. to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.

“We will lower prices, refill our strategic reserves to the top, and export American oil all over the world,” Trump said.
