Scholz commented on Elon Musk's "Nazi" gesture during Trump's inauguration.

Freedom of speech ends where the slogans of the far-right begin, he noted.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated on Tuesday that he does not support freedom of speech when it is used to promote extreme right-wing views. This comment came during a question at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where he was asked to respond to a hand gesture made by American billionaire Elon Musk that sparked outrage.

This is reported by Reuters

“We have freedom of speech in Europe and Germany. Everyone can say what they want, even if they are a billionaire. But what we do not accept is support for extreme right positions,” Scholz said in response to a question about the incident during Donald Trump's inauguration.

Musk's sharp gesture, with his hand extended forward and upward during the inauguration, drew comparisons online to the Nazi salute.

Musk dismissed the criticism, stating that it “tires him out.”

“Shame on Oaf Schitz,” Musk wrote on Tuesday on platform X, alongside a video shared by another user featuring Scholz speaking in Davos.

Oaf in English means “stupid,” and the distorted Schitz sounds similar to the English word “shit.”

Musk had previously attacked Scholz on X, calling him an “incompetent fool” who should resign after a deadly attack at a Christmas market in Magdeburg that resulted in five fatalities.

He also used X to express his support for the far-right party "Alternative for Germany" (AfD) ahead of elections scheduled for next month.

Musk's repeated support for the AfD has ignited anger in Berlin.

Background. As reported, the accounts of the German Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces are leaving Elon Musk's platform. Previously, several German and Austrian universities and research institutes have departed from X.

Meanwhile, most Germans believe that Musk's support for the "Alternative for Germany" will aid the party in the elections.

Let us remind you that the "Alternative for Germany" called for the expulsion of Ukrainian refugees from the country. A representative of the AfD stated that Ukraine is a large country with “plenty of territory.”

At the same time, it is worth noting that Germany reacted to Musk's Nazi salute during the inauguration—a descendant of Jews who survived the Holocaust thanks to the “Schindler's List” noted that democracy in the U.S. is under threat.
