In Russia, the Southern District Court in Rostov-on-Don has sentenced Ukrainian Pavel Levchenko to prison, who allegedly committed terrorist acts on railway tracks in occupied Simferopol.
This was reported by the Human Rights Center ZMINA, citing the press service of the Russian court.
Levchenko was sentenced to 22 years, with the first five years to be served in prison, and the remainder in a high-security correctional colony. He was also fined one million rubles.
The Russians charged him with treason, aiding terrorist activities, a terrorist act committed by an organized group, preparation for a crime and attempted crime, a terrorist act, illegal production of explosive devices, and violations of weapon handling rules that resulted in severe consequences.
According to the occupiers, on April 9, 2022, in Zaporizhzhia, Levchenko allegedly established contact with a GUR officer to cooperate. A year later, he reportedly retrieved components for making explosives from caches and transported them to occupied Simferopol. There, he allegedly created two homemade explosive devices, placed them under the railway tracks, and detonated them as freight trains passed.
The Russians claim that in October 2023, Levchenko intended to replicate the explosions, but this time aimed to blow up a fuel depot and the railway tracks.
